Thursday thoughts: Worth the wait

Posted

Have you ever heard the saying "you have the weight of the world on your shoulders?"

Lately I have not felt like I have the weight of the world, but I have felt like I have the weight of my personal world on my heart. I have really struggled the last month or so with my emotions and feelings.

Internally I carry concerns about my family, financial needs, disappointments, relationship struggles, and some things that I haven't even told anyone about. I don't necessarily think the hard part is that I am carrying these things, but the weight of what carrying these situations is doing to my heart. The truth is I was never meant to carry all of these things. I need to turn the weight in my heart over to waiting on God.

He is the only One who can make the "weight" I am carrying worth the "wait." Psalms 27:14 says, "Wait on the Lord; be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart." The weight in my heart can feel heavier than what I can even explain. It seems to just linger when I am ready for it to disappear.

The promises of God make me trust that waiting on Him will heal my heart and make it worth the weight of pain I have carried. The value and worth of waiting on God is much greater than whatever weight of this life you might be holding onto.

There is a difference between carrying a weight and carrying a promise. The weight tells you nothing is changing. God says, "I know the plans I have for you to give you hope and a future." The weight tells you that you can't take much more. God says, "Don't fear. I am with you and will uphold you." The weight says this battle is too hard. God says He will fight for me; I need only to be still.

I just have to rearrange my thoughts and know that God will heal my heart and protect me in the process. Sometimes it takes time. It doesn't mean while you are waiting you won't cry, hurt, or feel exhausted by your emotions. Through all this, you can still have faith and know God is good. Maybe the in-between time is teaching lessons we need to learn or preparing us for something better. Only God knows.

We just have to trust that our God is good no matter our circumstances. I know I am not the only person who struggles at times. We all do. I just want to encourage you to keep going even when life gets hard. God sees the weight in your heart, or for that matter any weight you are carrying. In the end, He always makes it worth the wait! Psalms 25:5 says. "Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I will wait all the day long."
