Truett McConnell University is facing adversities with faith and facts. Considering the recent challenges, the University Board of Trustees have wisely engaged the services of an independent investigator to gather information concerning actions or inactions by the University surrounding sexual abuse allegations.
I trust our Trustees to respond appropriately once they have the facts upon which to make their decisions. They will make any necessary personnel and procedural changes at that time.
In the meantime, the University is continuing to serve our students and their families by fulfilling our mission to “equip students with the Truth, through a Biblically-centered education, to fulfill the Great Commission.” As the University faculty and staff are busy preparing for the fall semester, we continue with our summer endeavors: mission teams serving around the world, summer classes began on June 9, graduating our Francophone students in West Africa, and summer camp on campus. Truett McConnell University is alive, and our campus is a safe environment as we move forward.
While we wait for the investigation to be completed, and our Trustees to determine any appropriate actions that maybe necessary, I trust the Lord to guide us in our journey in a manner that honors Him. We continue to pray for all those impacted by the tragic sin of abuse. The University has offered to help any faculty or staff that may need professional
assistance to cope with issues they may be facing because of these sinful behaviors.
These recent events do not define the University. We will not be characterized by the unrighteous actions of a few. I join thousands of others in saying that this University has impacted my life for God and for good. For me, its impact started 58 years ago when I first stepped on this campus as an 18-year-old high school graduate and has continued to this day.
The University will emerge from this time stronger and more focused than ever. As followers of Christ, we are not immune from sin, but we are mandated to deal with sin as Jesus Christ would have us do.
Thank you for your continued prayers and the outpouring of support during this time.
