CLEVELAND, G. — On Sept. 15, 2026, family, friends, classmates, and faculty gathered to honor and celebrate twelve students as they officially entered Truett McConnell University’s nursing program. The White Coat Ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Rielin and Salmen School of Nursing Class of 2028 as they begin their journey toward becoming professional nurses.
The ceremony opened with a welcome from Associate Professor Mrs. Macy Slate, who emphasized the significance of the White Coat Ceremony as these students pursue their calling as professional nurses who will embody Christlike compassionate care.
Dr. Kurt Wise, Interim Chair of the School of STEM, followed with a prayer over the students as they step into their calling to serve others.
Dr. Wise then welcomed this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Larry Lyon, President of Truett McConnell University. Dr. Lyon challenged these nursing students, as the white coat is not just a symbol of an academic accomplishment but a reminder of the gift that has been entrusted to them. He also encouraged them to approach their future with a heart committed to loving and serving others.
“Who better to serve than those who know what it is to love and be served,” Lyon shared.
Students were called forward to receive their white coats, marking the beginning of their journey in the nursing profession. The ceremony concluded with a recitation of the nurse’s oath while students committed to serving others with excellence and integrity as they pursue their calling.
Dr. Maël Disseau, Vice President for Academic Services, closed the ceremony with words of encouragement and prayer over the students as they began this new chapter.
