The long and winding recruitment of Dylan Raiola ended early and with no drama Wednesday with the highly touted quarterback signing a national letter of intent with Nebraska. Raiola is a consensus top 10 recruit in the class of 2024 and the son of former Cornhuskers offensive lineman Dominic Raiola, but it took him a while to choose Nebraska. He was first verbally committed to Ohio State and then Georgia. His family even moved the Atlanta suburbs for him to play his final high school season.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons are removing quarterback Desmond Ridder from the starting job for the second time this season following his continued turnover woes in the team's latest loss. Taylor Heinicke was listed as the starter in the updated depth chart released by the team on Tuesday for this week's game against the Indianapolis Colts. The change was not a surprise. Ridder threw an interception in the red zone to set up Carolina's game-winning scoring drive in the Panthers' 9-7 win on Sunday.

Quarterback Dylan Raiola, one of the top high school football recruits in the country, announced Monday he will sign with Nebraska after months of being a verbal commitment to Georgia. Raiola, whose father played for Nebraska and uncle is a current assistant coach, made his announcement with a poem posted to social media.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have hired Rangers analyst C.J. Nitkowski to serve on their main television broadcast team, allowing Jeff Francoeur to spend more time with his family. Bally Sports and the Braves announced Monday that Nitkowski, who pitched for the Braves in 2004 and still lives in suburban Atlanta, will serve as play-by-play broadcaster Brandon Gaudin’s primary analyst. Francouer and Hall of Famer Tom Glavine are expected to work about 20 games each.

ATLANTA (AP) — Trae Young extended his recent hot streak with another double-double, scoring 31 points with 15 assists, as the Atlanta Hawks beat Detroit 130-124 on Monday night, handing the Pistons their 24th consecutive loss. “I was not going to let them break their streak against us,” Young said. ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons are teetering on the brink after one of the worst losses in franchise history, an inexplicable setback that raised questions about the fates of coach Arthur Smith and quarterback Desmond Ridder. As his third season winds down with the playoffs looking increasingly out of reach, Smith is under intense heat from a disgruntled fan base that is clamoring for a change.

First baseman Matt Carpenter was acquired by the Atlanta Braves along with left-hander Ray Kerr and $1.5 million from the San Diego Padres on Friday for outfielder Drew Campbell.

Georgia Southern will be taking on Ohio in the  Myrtle Beach Bowl on Saturday.

ATLANTA (AP) — Jarred Kelenic is eager to change the narrative after his trade to the Atlanta Braves. He doesn't want to be another prized prospect who fails to live up to lofty expectations. For sure, he doesn't want to be remembered mostly as the guy who foolishly broke his foot kicking a water cooler in frustration. “I'm looking forward to a fresh start,” Kelenic said Wednesday.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jonas Aidoo had 29 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 12 Tennessee beat Southern 74-56 on Tuesday night. The winless Eagles (0-10) had no answer for the 6-foot-11 Aidoo, who also had two steals and two blocks. Aidoo was the only double-digit scorer for the Volunteers (7-3).

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — The Turkish Football Federation has suspended all league games in the country after a club president punched the referee in the face at the end of a top-flight match. MKE Ankaragucu president Faruk Koca attacked referee Halil Umut Meler on the pitch late Monday after the final whistle, following a 1-1 draw in a Super Lig game against Caykur Rizespor.

NEW YORK (AP) — The day before Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy he was asked if he would return to LSU for another season next year. “I can't,” he said. Oh, right. The careers of college quarterbacks might feel endless these days, but even with the bonus COVID year the NCAA handed out for those in college in 2020, Daniels is done after playing five seasons.

ATLANTA (AP) — The final play summed up the entire day for the Atlanta Falcons. Really, the entire season. With one last chance to pull out a victory that had been snatched away in the final minute, Desmond Ridder saw Drake London breaking loose over the middle and delivered a pass right on the numbers.

ATLANTA (AP) — Baker Mayfield knew the Falcons would be devoting plenty of attention to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. ATLANTA (AP) — If the Atlanta Falcons can string together their first three-game winning streak since 2019, they'd take a huge step toward breaking an even longer drought. The first-place Falcons (6-6) lead the NFC South despite their so-so record heading into the final month of the season.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Noah Thomasson scored 16 points, Justin Hill added 14 points and Georgia beat rival Georgia Tech 76-62 on Tuesday night.
